Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT THERAPY

Psychotherapy can help you develop skills, and resources to address the emotions, situations, and relationships that bring you to therapy.  In a therapy session, therapeutic work is identified and a treatment plan is developed. Therapy varies according to the issues and needs brought by each client, and goals will be identified at your first session. Therapy also varies according to the training and education of the therapist you are working with.  Your therapist will provide more information about their methods, or you can read our therapist bios here to learn more.

HOW LONG IS EACH THERAPY SESSION?

Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes.

TYPE OF THERAPY OFFERED

Our Registered Psychotherapists work with people with a wide range of presenting issues and are trained to work with what each client brings to therapy to address. Our therapists each bring their training and experience to their therapy practice and practice from an 'integrative approach' which means that of the variety of modalities they are trained in they will use the types of therapy that will be a good match with both the client and the therapy concerns.  We offer therapy in many modalities (not limited to and including) Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sand Tray Worldplay, and more. Visit our therapist bios here for more details about our therapists, their training and experience, and their services.

HOW CAN THERAPY HELP?

Therapy offers a supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns in a way that promotes healing, clarity, and growth. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, or feeling stuck, a trained therapist can help you better understand yourself and develop strategies to cope and thrive. Over time, therapy can lead to improved emotional regulation, stronger relationships, greater self-awareness, and a deeper sense of well-being. It’s not about having all the answers—it's about having a place to be heard, gain perspective, and create meaningful change at your own pace.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS TO THERAPY?

While therapy can be deeply beneficial, it can also bring up difficult emotions as you explore painful memories or confront challenging aspects of your life. Sometimes people notice uncomfortable feelings or heightened symptoms following an appointment, before they start to feel better. It’s also possible that progress can take time and may not follow a straight path. However, your therapist will work with you to move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, and to support you through any discomfort that arises.
